Natural Wonders and Wonderful Nature
People who travel here are people who appreciate nature at its most jurassic, technicolor and surreal (and people who own hiking boots and rain pants). The blues and greens of the lagoons and mountainsides are almost electrically charged—so vivid they practically make your eyes hurt. Seagulls build their nests in the lush vegetation, especially around the island’s other famous crater lake, Lagoa do Fogo. Candy-colored hydrangeas line the winding roads as a practical matter (their strong roots defend against erosion), and in spring, everything lights up hot pink with azaleas.
This beautiful hotel is located ocean front in the north coast city of Ribeira Grande.
Truly a dream setting. This stunning hotel boasts acess to the gorgeous botanical gardens and hot spring pool.
The Azores are located in the northern Atlantic Ocean, roughly 2,400 miles east of the U.S. and 930 miles west of Lisbon, making them the closest European land to the United States. The Portuguese archipelago is made up of nine volcanic islands spread across 400 miles, which are divided into three island clusters: eastern (São Miguel and Santa Maria islands), central (Terceira, São Jorge, Pico, Graciosa, and Faial), and western (Flores and Corvo).
The Azores, as part of Portugal, is a European Union member and uses the Euro.
The Azoreans speak Portuguese. Many people do speak English though, and language is not an issue.
